Gift Certificates Plus, Inc., a privately held Utah corporation, started back in 1996 as a technology company with a new product called Giftworks™. This PC based product was written specifically for restaurants, hotels, franchises, malls, and other retailers that wanted to created, print, redeem, and report on their own gift certificates. The founders had a 15-year history in the security documents business prior to launching the software company. Over the past eight years, GCP has added hundreds of Giftworks™ users and security forms customers throughout the U.S., Canada, and Austrailia (see client list). Giftworks™ remains the premier general market gift certificate PC application (Win9X, NT, 2000, XP) and has proven to be very user-friendly and reliable for small and large clients. Several software compatible gift certificate formats are available. The company has maintained its strong commitment to quality and security for all printed gift certificates. Storage and inventory release services can be provided upon request.

In 1999, GCP reengineered the popular Giftworks™ product as an ASP/Internet application. This product, called eGiftworks™, allows real-time connectivity for multiple store locations, websites, catalog departments, and corporate offices for issuing, redeeming, and reporting on paper or electronic gift certificates. The system can manage balances on individual certificates; and has a unique online gift certificate ordering and fulfillment process. Custom applications including shopping cart integration, account reconciliation, and POS integration are available.

Gift certificates have become a popular way for individuals and corporations to offer incentive awards, holiday and special occasion gifts. Banking institutions expect gift certificates sales to reach more than $20 billion this year. Over the past several years, gift cards have started to become popular in certain markets.
